Hi Holger,

I'm not sure exactly if that's a bug or I'm just not doing something right.
When I'm using a mesh distance node with a more complex geo to fade/soften the edges I get a transparent line where the edges are overlapping.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks

Hmm, this mesh should not be a problem as it is not very complex (regarding sharp object angles or structure).
Do you get the same result without any fractal?

Yeah, without the fractal it's the same:

I plugged the meshdistance directly into the density here..

Here is the maya file in case you need it:

Thank you!

Holger, I think I found the problem.
If I scale the geo down quite a bit then the edge lines disappear. You scale it up 10-20 times, the lines come back.

This is a big issue for us, cause we are working in much larger scale units in our production pipeline.

Do you think there is a way to fix this somehow?

Best wishes,
Alex.

What is your raytracing depth in the render settings?

I tried different raytrace depth settings (1-20). No difference.
Tried everything I can think of in the render settings.

Actually, I'm having similar issues with other scenes. Not only when using mesh distance.
Even with the most simple particle setups. When the scale is small everything seems to be fine.
When you scale everything x5 or higher, you start seeing similar issues when volumes intersect and overlap with each other.

Again, there might be some setting that I'm missing..

Thanks for your help.

If volume boxes overlap, then you get different results than if they are rendered seperately.
But in your example nothing is overlapping. Any error message in the render log?
