Hi, i'd like to setup a couple of pre jobs to compute maya_vray irradiance map rendering before i launch the render.
I need the pre jobs to do the same as traditional maya+vray job (except no need to check the output frames).

I 've copie my maya vray config and named it pre01__Maya2009_irradmap.cfg altered the name and added the pre/post sections in it.

THe porblem i have is RR doesn't seem to take it for a maya vray job, env is not correctly set and job crashes?

Any idea what i can do ?

Hey,

In our case we need to precompute irrandiance before (the method you provide which is different is not adapated to our scene, and would provide light blotches).

We only need to bake the map for first frame, then it is used for the full range.

Is there a way to tell rr that the prejob is of a maya_vray type so env is set correctly ?

this is probably the only thing that prevents us from doing it like we want

Yes, the job example I provided is a whole job that pre-computes the map for all frames.
This would be a two-job task. A pre-compute job and a render job.



So I assume you want to have only one job? And not a two-job solution?
A job with a pre-script to generate the map file for one frame.
(One frame is right as you do not have any animation in your scene beside a tiny camera movement, right?)
Ok, so you need a pre-script:

First, if you change the render config for VRay, then your commandline is executed for each frame.
But you want to have a task that is executed before any frame is rendered, therefore you need a pre-script.

You have to place your commandline to generate the map in a config file in RR\render_apps\_prepost_scripts\
PrePostType=pre
has to be set in that file.


Then the client does set the same environment for a pre-script than it does for the main render.
There is no difference. The only difference might be that setenv line, you should set it to the maya setenv if you need the env paths defined in that file.

Yep you got it, small/no movements, only 1 frame irradiance required.

I believe I've done what you said, configured it as a prejob, force the render layers that are bound to my irr map, altered the cfg so only the first frame is rendered

The cfg is set to pre, and i check it when i launch the render.

so far the system seems not to detect it is a maya vray job..

I'll clean the config as much as I can and I'll post it.

The job is submitted as all your vray jobs, right? So it should be a vray job the same way as all your vray jobs.
And you just enable the pre-script to generate the vray map for that job?

Maya is not seen as the app

If i hardcode the maya exe path in the .cfg, then i get an error about vrayRenderer.xml description


It really looks like the env is not correct, but I don't see what is wrong ..

First, there is no rendererName not a version for a script config.
And the name should be probably something else than "Maya". Perhaps "VRay GenIrrMap".

And now I get your problem.
You told me that the environment is not set right, but that is the same.
But the render application exec path is not set.

I am sorry, but for now you have to hardcode the path to the right setenv and the maya executable in the render config.
You cannot use <SetEnvSoft> nor <Exe>

ok, i think i get the point.

I had tested to match the namings because i didn't know what was forcing the env for maya_vray ( file name, rendername etc..) obviously it looks like nothing was making it, because it is a prejob.

Now, i've tried to add the app path ad setenv hardcoded, but I must be wrong in the syntax:

call
before any batch file in a commandline
