Hello,

I am not actually sure when this started happening (so I can't tell what changed), but I haven't been able to have the client service start with UAC enabled. We used to be able to have in enabled, but something has changed.

The only thing that changed recently is that I performed the update to 6.02.31 and then 7.0.b8q+6.2, and I updated samba to 4.1.4 on our server/rrServer.

I've been through some of the debugging, and the log for the service says successful, and the only thing that changes is it either says "Not elevating token" or "Elevated token using linked.token/Linked.token".

I would prefer to keep UAC on, since we don't use the software that the help says needs it to be off. It would keep us a bit more safer.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi

Where does it say
"Not elevating token" or "Elevated token using linked.token/Linked.token".
It is from the error log in the rrServerice folder?
Do you have the complete error message?

Which windows version do you use?

Hello,

It says that in the rrAutostartservice.log file in the rrService folder.

It doesn't technically give an error message, but with UAC it says 7.0.b7b+6.2 02.24. 15:37.34: Elevating Token using linkedToken.LinkedToken.

and with no UAC it says 7.0.b7b+6.2 02.24. 15:40.21: Not elevating token.

It is the only thing that changes in the log, but it refuses to start rrClientconsole UAC enabled.

I am using Windows 7 Pro.

Ok, so there is no error message and the service log tells you that the client executable was started without issues?

Do you get anything in the log RR/sub/log/C_....txt?

Hello,

Here is a copy paste of the rrAutostartservice.log file. The first one is with UAC and the client didn't start, then I restarted with UAC off and the client started.

Two more things to check:
The service is still running as system account, you have not set any user in the windows service settings?
The user you have entered in rrWorkstationInstaller is local admin?

I will try to find a machine that has this issue as well, but right now I do not get such an issue.

Since I disabled UAC, it runs on start-up as a service. If I look in the Task Manager, it says that rrClientconsole is being run by "Animator" (my user account on the system). Animator is part of the administrators group in mmc.

rrAutostartservice.exe is run by SYSTEM though.

Is there something in the windows event log about the issue?
Control panel/Admin Tools/Event Viewer - Windows Logs

Then I am not sure if the version that you use would print a logfile in C:\RR_localdata\C_...txt.
(The filename should not have any number, if it has, then it is a render log, not an application log)

I have checked, and there are like 3 Logon and 1 Special Logon entries in the event view for that time, two mention rrAutostartservice, and one mentions logging onto the server.

The only difference is that the first (failed) attempt has an extra logon entry, but they all claim success.

This is assuming I am reading them properly. I am pretty good, but I am no IT guy.

Ok, I have tested it on a freshly installed win7 profesional machine with highest UAC and there was no problem.
I can not repro the issue on any machine.

Yeah,

I think it has to do with the login of the server when run as a service. Everything might not be configured properly for us.

Thanks for helping though.

But the rrService can access the files on the fileserver, otherwise it would not be able to check if the local rrClientconsole is the same version as the one on the fileserver.

This is true, hmmm.

I have no idea then. I guess we will just keep UAC off.
