Hi Holger,

We are using rrCreateVideo (6.02.31) to generate DNxHD movies on a post script, however we notice that an extra frame is being added to the start (black frame in AE/Premiere, but white in Quicktime player). I've heard similar problems with extra frames using ffmpeg and not sure if the two problems are related.

Our rrCreateVideo tests show that:
the following codecs create a blank frame: dnxhd, mpeg4, qtrle
the following codecs no NOT create a blank frame: mjpeg

Is this a bug? is there a workaround?

Thanks.

Our command is:

CommandLine_Win=
"<rrBin>rrCreateVideo.exe" "<ImageDir>\FINAL-DNxHD\<SceneFileName>_<Layer>.mov" "<ImageDir>\<ImageFilename>#<ImageExtension>" -w "<WebsiteFolderName>" -codec dnxhd -kbit 120 -fps 23.976 -scale 1920 1080

I am not sure if I can fix it, if the issue is in the ffmpeg lib.
But I will update the ffmpeg in the next time, then I can try to repro and find a workaround.

After further testing, I don't think the problem is with ffmpeg.
I've tried using the latest ffmpeg, and the old version (10/19/2012) that RR uses.

This works correctly, with no extra start frame (with latest and old ffmpeg):
ffmpeg -r 29.97 -f image2 -i d:\test\002_01%03d.png -vcodec dnxhd -b:v 220M -y d:\test\test.mov

This test, using the same frames, creates an extra blank first frame:
rrCreateVideo.exe d:\test\test.mov d:\test\002_#.png -codec dnxhd -kbit 120 -fps 29.97 -scale 1920 1080

Hope this helps to figure it out,
Thanks.

Have you been able to reproduce this?

Sorry, not yet.
It is logged, but will probably be fixed (if possible) when we update the FFmpeg library.
There is no easy issue to fix in rrCreateVideo as it works with other codecs.

Ok, thanks for looking. Hopefully the ffmpeg update will help this out.

Ok, it took some time.
But the next RR version 7.0.8 has a lot of changes for rrCreateVideo.
