Hi,

I did try it with several update versions. I even reinstalled with the complete installer.
It seems that every version above 6.02.15 give me that problem, crashing the renderjobs. If I fall back to 6.02.15 everything works. I did notice that RR uses python for the renderscript in the newer versions. We are using Softimage 2011 and mental ray. Do I need to install any python related extra stuff?

Log snippet:

R 29| COMMAND: -thread 8 -script "//Biloxi/RR6_share/render_apps/scripts/kso_softimage.py" -lang Python -main rrStart -args -argAll " PyModPath: \\Biloxi\RR6_share\render_apps/scripts, SName: \\Biloxi\projects\+----Inhouse\advanced water caustics\xsidb_advanced_caustics\Scenes\advanced_water_caustics_--LIGHTMAP_v65.scn, Db: \\Biloxi\projects\+----Inhouse\advanced water caustics\xsidb_advanced_caustics, Pass: lightmap_test_miniature_v2_4mdepth, SkipFrame: true, FName: \\Biloxi\projects\+----Inhouse\advanced water caustics\xsidb_advanced_caustics\Render_Pictures\caustic_lightmap_result\lightmap_test_miniature_v2_4mdepth\<Layer>. , FExt: .exr , FrStart: 183, FrEnd: 200, FrStep: 1 , FrOffset: 0 , Verbose: 12, "
R 30| ' ERROR : Syntax error - [line 7]
R 31| ERROR - Cannot parse script.
R 32| FATAL - Script Aborted.

Starting RRconfig gives me this error messages (even it starts though):
12.06 16:20.59| WRN - QMetaObject::connectSlotsByName: No matching signal for on_buttonWhatsAdvanced_clicked()

Thank you and regards,
sven

If you start your XSI, do you have python as script language?
Do you use Windows or Linux?

You can use the latest RR version and then use the old Visual Basic scripts.
Copy the files /render_apps/_config/3D01__Softimage.... from an old installer to your RR installation.

Yes, I have python available inside of xsi (on every machine). And we are on windows completely.
I replaced the files under /render_apps/_config/3D01__Softimage....with the old versions (from v6.02.15).

The log says, it still uses the python version:

R 26| COMMAND: -thread 6 -script "//Biloxi/RR6_share/render_apps/scripts/kso_softimage.py".....
R 27| ' ERROR : Syntax error - [line 7]
R 28| ERROR - Cannot parse script.
R 29| FATAL - Script Aborted.

EDIT (if of interest):
Fileserver is running Windows Server2003 64bit
Workstations are running Windows7 64bit.
Rendernodes are running XP Pro 64bit.

Hmm, if you have replaced the render config files with the old version, then there should not be any python script any more.

Please select the job in rrControl.
Then execute "Export debug info - selected job(s)" via the menu "Debug".
Please upload via www.RoyalRender.de/upload_r.php

Nevermind. Don't know why but it seems to work now. I restarted the RRserver service, restarted the workstation and rendernodes. Then re-submitted a test job. Now it uses the old VB script and everything renders fine...hm.

When I have the time, I will try to track down why that python script doesn't work. Could it be related to Windows Server2003 x64 not having the proper librarys installed? I installed python v3.3.3 on the server but didn't restart the machine since then.
However, it's not an important issue anymore. Smile

Thanks for the assistance and have a nice weekend.

Hi

I assume it is some problem with a name.
If you upload the debug data of an old job, I can check.

Ok, I changed the old VB scripts back to the latest python renderscripts and rendered a testscene. It crashed and I uploaded the debug info.

Beside the \+---- I do not see any special characters.

To be sure that you have the latest version of the script:
www.RoyalRender.de/download/kso_softimage.zip
You have to replace it in RR\render_apps\scripts\ and in the RR\render_apps\scripts\subfolder rr_orginal

Note: you can rename the new kso render config and change the renderer inside the file.
Then you can use both, the new and the old one.
Just change the renderer at the rrSubmitter.
