Hi Holger

I have a scene that renders fine in the render region but when I try rendering the pass with the exact same settings (and memory requirements) it crashes every time after rendering a few tiles without any volume in them - I am guessing when the renderer hits volume. What might be the cause of this?

I am stuck and really need to render for a deadline. I am using alpha 0.05 as 0.06 did not work with my emFluid 4.041. I get errors when rendering in the renderregion: ' ERROR : PHEN 0.11 error: BA_PT_Loader: Version expired - is this why pass rendering crashes?

Thanks!

Hi

I will take a look why it crashes.
There was a change in the licensing system.

regards,

Hi Holger

I installed the latest baFluid v0.06 which is not expired and it crashes too, so that is possibly not the problem. I asked on the xsi userlist and Steven Caron and Byungchul Cang both mentioned that it crashes when there is no volume in the grid, ie. it would crash on the first empty frames and render from fr. 5 Kang mentioned. I did not cache my sim yet, but that would be next to see if this is indeed the problem.

I dont know which attributes need to be cached for the fluid shading to work though - can you tell me which are needed?

Hi

Yes, there is a bug in the emfluid<>baFluid connection if you rewind and there is no data simulated and emfluid has not reset the data pointer. But there is nothing I can do about it from the shader site.

The fluid data cannot be cached with the Softimage caching as it is not located inside default ICE attributes.
Caching emfluid sims into files will be supported with the next emFluid version.

regards,

I can repro a crash with the latest version in a scene while there is fluid data.
I will try to find the issue.

Glad it is not my machine/config or methodology Smile
Looking forward to a fix and the caching. Thanks for taking the time Holger.

Any luck?
I have the same problem. I am using 120109__baVolume_v4alpha_0.07___Softimage_2012 and XSI 2012.SAP
Would be glad to buy a license. But also would like to know, if I can make use of it.

The issue has how to be to be fixed from the emfluid site as I get a null pointer.
Eric knows about the issue and afaik he is working on a new version.

The licensing will work with the next version of the fluid shader.

@Simpfendoerfer - I had replies from some guys on the Soft userlist who confirmed the crashes when the volume is empty, and they pointed to a workaround where they render from frame 5 where there is some density present. I can confirm that it works - rendering now Smile
