How would I get maya to do this same effect?

I have these shaders for XSI but am using Maya on a project.

There is a maya sample scene Meshdist_volume.mb in the samples.
It was done the same way, just different textures.

Hmm, I don't see the scene in the samples.

Only
color_switcher_framebuffer_setup.mb
color_switcher_layer_setup.mb
raylength_occlusion_transparency.mb

I found it. The setup for maya 2009 has lib for maya 2010 and 2011. mental ray 3.7.5 and 3.8.1

You are mising different products.
If you check my website, you see that there is a section for the Shader Collection/Volumes and a Shader Collection/Essentialss.

The sample scenes you describe are from the essential package.
