(Cross post to Isotropix' forum with more info: http://forum.isotropix.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=268 )

Hi,

Two things; One is that RR seem to ignore the number of licenses I've specified, all render nodes try to render even though half of them will fail because of a limited number of batch licenses, eventually all nodes end up as unassigned and I have to keep resetting the job until it's done. Manually assigning the correct number of nodes seems to work better.

Secondly, every 5 or 10 frames get broken, ie. stored as "_broken__pass.0001.exr," except all these files are just fine. I'm not sure why RR think they're broken, but it seems Clarisse is sending a -1 exitcode sometimes, even though the render completed successfully. This also makes all nodes get unassigned pretty quickly even though nothing actually went wrong.

For instance:

Code:
R776| 00:03:16      137/164MB  Progress 89%
R777| 00:03:16      137/164MB  Progress 91%

Update:

It's always the last frame of the sequence divide chunk that gets renamed to _broken*, if I set the chunk to 1 frame, all frames get broken.

Maybe this helps: http://i.imgur.com/bPwoO0A.jpg

Just to recheck:
Can you open the _broken frames?
Please upload me a broken file via www.RoyalRender.de/upload_r.php.

Also, please send me the a clarisse job, then I can check for the render license count:
Please select the job in rrControl.
Then execute "Export debug info - selected job(s)" via the menu "Debug".
Please attach the zipped information to this support ticket.

RR could ignore the -1 return code via a workaround:
Please edit RR\render_apps\_config\3D14__Clarisse10.cfg
and add a
CommandLine_Win= <ResetExitCode>
Before the
CommandLine_Win=
<CheckExitCode> <FN>

I can confirm that the job runs through perfectly without broken frames if I bypass the exit code in the cfg file. I've uploaded a .rar file with some broken files in it just now.

I also uploaded the zip generated by RR as you described. It should show both licensing errors and the error code error on different chunks of frames.

Ok, I assume I have the reason for the broken frame issue.
After the render finished, the client tries to load the file and cannot even read a tiny bit of the file.
I assume the time between file close and trying to load it in rrClient is to low, perhaps clarisse did not close all files before crash and windows takes its second to do recognize it.

I could implement a wait time and hope it was the reason. Otherwise I need a remote session to debug the issue. (Develop new version, upload it to the test machine, develop, ...)

Does that mean that Clarisse isn't what generates the exit code -1? I don't think CNODE actually crashes at any point, do you think? I'll help you debug if I can.

Clarisse generates the exit code -1. It does not crash, right. It is a handled exception/error/something and therefore they close with -1. They either keep this error info to the end and close clarisse or they just break in the middle of the code with -1.

After that the client tries to read the exr file.

I will try to release a new version today or tomorrow (5 issues left) , please try that one. (check for the date on the download site)
