I have Maya x64 2009 sp1a, i followed the steps of the installation,

- Copy the right libraries from \lib\... into "maya/mentalray/lib"
- Copy \include\*.mi file into "maya/mentalray/include"
- Copy \scripts\*.mel into "maya/scripts"
- Copy \scripts\AETemplates\*.mel into "maya/scripts/AETemplates"

I copied the licence file also in my
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2009\bin\plug-ins

At the start of Maya i get for BA shaders

// parsing C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2009/mentalray/include/BA_cell_scl.mi

and then i try render PT_default (for example),
I got nothing in render view (render fail!)

result in script editor is:

Hi
It seems to be a Maya.env issue.
Please see this thread:

Humm, my shaders are loaded correctly so the directories of lib and include are found correctly.
I already viewed the topic you mention. The problem of the guy was that he didn't have any licence... so maybe my problem is related to that also? But i put my licence file in a path that is in the MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH:
when i type
getenv MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH;
// C:/Documents and Settings/mathieu/My Documents/maya/2009-x64/plug-ins;C:/Documents and Settings/mathieu/My Documents/maya/plug-ins;C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2009/bin/plug-ins;

and in the folder C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2009/bin/plug-ins, i got
BA_Volume_license_v3.dat
LicenseInfo.txt

so i don't think there is any problem related to Maya env. Should i rename something?

Hi

No, the other thread was about your issue and then about the license not found.
He changed the maya.env file.

I have added maya.env:
PATH = $MAYA_LOCATION/mentalray/lib;$PATH

ok, i have done that, and it doesn't change anything...
i do getenv PATH in Maya and i have C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2009/mentalray/lib in it and still the same failure in render.

so 2 questions...

- could you give me a way to check the important things that your shader need to have?
- do I need to rename the licence files?

thanks.

Hi

The error message you get "call to undeclared function ...."
Is not an error message that is produced by the shader.
It is an error message generated by mental Ray.
Mental Ray can not execute the shader somehow.
So if the shader does not get exeuted at all, then it has nothing to do with license files.

The shader only requires the VS redistributable package 2005 SP1.

Ok i tried VS redistributable package 2008 SP1 (you linked to it), it still doesn't work, i tried VS redistributable package 2005 (you wrote it), i don't know if it should work also but it didn't either... i am now trying to install a win32 version of Maya to find out if it is me doing something wrong or if it issome x64 dependency that make it failed...
i am quite puzzled...

Also try to remove all maya.env files. Just to check if there is an issue with them.

ok under Maya 2009 win32 there is absolutly no problem. the setup has been done in a few sec and cloudSky work immediatly... so i really think it is a problem of the dependency with the dll you compiled, something is missing in my system windows XP.

Yes, the redistributable package gives you the MSVCR80.DLL.

I tried to reinstall redistributable 2008 on my computer without any success... maybe it is because i lack of the last updates of windows, anyway i am now trying on another computer to do the updates and see if it works... I am guessing you use Visual studio 2008 to compile the shaders, is it possible to test something? can you try to compile with visual studio 2005 one of you shader and send it to me? because Visual studio 2008 always generate crap depndencies...
thanks very much.

Just to check:
You are using the latest shader version with the dlls in a sp1 folder maya_2009_sp1_ray3.7.1?

Please try to copy these files into the same folder as the dlls:
www.BinaryAlchemy.de/download/Microsoft.VC80.CRT.zip

I took the dll in BA_ShaderCollectionVolume_v3.7.1___Maya\mentalray\lib\maya_2009_sp1_ray3.7.1\win64
I put with them in mentalray\lib all the files in Microsoft.VC80.CRT.zip and it doesn't work.

Could you try the compilation on VS 2005 please? it is pretty sure it will work...

I have rechecked, it is a 2005 compilation.
I will try a 2008 compilation instead.

ok , this... is working! thanks, great !! I looked at the dependencies (using dependency walker), they are now linked to MSVCR90.DLL witch is found correctly and no more crappy MSVCR80.dll. thank you very much! I will test on the other "fresh" computer to see if it works and if i can put them on the farm.
thanks.
by the way your shaders looks greats!

mathieu.
