I was just trying to find a way to set up some LOD control for the displacement in my rendertree, when I reaslised there seems to be no way to get the raylength before displacement using standard shaders. Much the same way that applies to Incidence (unless the Alan's Incidents shader is used).
Could be a nice thing to consider.
Cheers,
Dan. |

I think it would be possible to get the total distance from the camera to the object. But I am not sure if that also applies, if you enable to option to subdivide all object at start of the rendering. (This An Mray option)
I have already a shader which gives you the total distance, which can be used at initialisation. This shader will be for the next volume version (some shaders are missing). This way you can set the table resolution based on the distance of the object to the camera. _________________ Holger Schönberger

Sounds like it'd do the trick, looking forward to it! Used your volume cloud shaders for a National Geographic job recently, really worked well. I'll try to remember to send it to you once it gets aired!
All the best,
