Hi,
im trying to produce a reflection with alpha that i can use to comp my characters onto a marble floor. I was told that i could use the BA_COLOR_SWITCHER shader to achieve this. Im unable to get this working in maya. Ive piped the out_color into an aiUtility node, and the outTransparency into the opacity of the utility. I can get reflection but nothing i change seems to affect the alpha at all.

Why do you use an aiUtility node?
Please check the sample scenes how to use the color_switcher.

I tried loading the sample scenes, but they aren't working. The SG's have nothing mapped into them and they render out black with no alphas. I assume its because im on Maya 2014.

Ok, I have to check the sample scenes.
Have you tried to connect the color_switcher without the utility node?

Just plug the color_switcher into the Material and Shadow Shader port of the shading group.
Perhaps enable supress maya shaders and disable the shading engine.
